Taking Care of your Musical Instruments

Creating music has been the hobby of millions around the world since the world began. From simple sticks and drums, man now has hundreds of choices of musical instruments. They can opt for guitar, saxophone, piano, drums and any other musical instruments according to their liking. Aside from the well known musical instruments, almost each country around the globe is also coming out with their musical instruments. Although they are geared towards local music, they are now being integrated to western music. The result is a good mix of traditional and modern music that’s only geared towards advancement of music.

A good musical instrument should not go to waste. Although they could wear out after years of constant use, the musical instrument should not be left to be destroyed without preventive measures. Any musician should know how to properly take care of their musical instruments. Besides, the price of musical instruments (electronic or not) are very expensive that ignoring the decaying state of your musical instruments is a bad thing.

Although maintenance and protection of your musical instruments is easy, they should be observed constantly. One slip will destroy your musical instrument and you will have to spend more money to repair them. It is always important to observe precautionary measures to prevent damage and additional expenses.

Proper Storage

When not in use, your musical instrument should be properly stored. Your musical instrument should be placed in a hard case or a bag as soon as possible after use. This will protect the musical instrument from outside and untoward elements. It is highly recommended that you use a hard case so that it will not be affected even when it would be bumped.

The storage location is also important to ensure that your musical instrument stays in top shape. Any musical instrument is susceptible to extreme weather changes. Always store your musical instrument in a place where there is constant room temperature. If you’re not using any case, for example your guitar is only placed on a stand; you should avoid placing your guitar in areas with high humidity. It can easily crack your guitar and will considerably decrease the quality of music.

Before and After Use Maintenance

Before using your musical instrument, check if there are any cracks or inconsistencies in your musical instrument. Any cracks or deviations from the original look of your musical instrument should be a point of concern.

Before you use the instrument, always clean and wash your hands. Avoid eating food and use the musical instrument immediately. This will easily destroy your musical instrument since elements from food might seep into your instrument. This is especially true in electric musical instruments. Ants will be attracted to food and could destroy the components inside.

After use, it is highly recommended to clean the musical instrument again and immediately store them in a secured hard case for protection. Wiping the musical instruments clean is important as dust, sweat and other elements might cost you the sound quality of your musical instrument.
